Charlotte firefighter rescued after being trapped in three-alarm house fire

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte firefighter was rushed to a local hospital after part of a burning house in Ballantyne collapsed and trapped the firefighter inside.

The fire broke out shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Ledger Court in south Charlotte. Upon arrival, heavy gunfire was coming from the home’s garage, according to a news release.

Firefighters say the fire grew quickly and a second alarm was sounded shortly after 2 a.m. Around that time, a rescue call was made after part of the house collapsed and trapped the firefighter. A third alarm was issued.

After working for approximately 20 minutes, the firefighter was freed and transported to CMC Main with minor injuries, according to a news release. The firefighter has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

The fire was brought under control shortly after 3 a.m. A total of 80 firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and participated in rescue operations.

The causes of the fire are currently under investigation.
