EDGEFIELD, SC (WRDW/WAGT) – The Edgefield County Water and Sewer Authority has issued a boil water advisory after a contractor hit the water main Tuesday.

Officials advise customers to boil their water vigorously for a full minute before drinking or cooking with it, until advised otherwise by water and sewage authorities.

Customers located in:

• Pine plantation subdivision
• Fresh water yard
• Streets in Murphy Village including Powers Court, Shannon Drive, Kildare Drive, Heatherwood Drive, Butterfly Drive, Thistle Court, Cricket Court, Cupid Court, FoxFire Court, Mistletoe Court, Damby Court and Kerry Court
• Edgefield Road, St. Anthony to Shadowrock Drive

A contractor hit the water main at Edgefield Road and Sweetwater Road. This reduced the pressure in the region.

It typically takes 24 hours for flushing and testing to be completed, officials say. This is strictly a precautionary measure and customers will be informed once the repeal is issued.
