Dubai: 2 private companies obtain license to operate electric vehicle charging stations – News

The first two independent charge point operator (CPO) licenses for electric vehicle charging stations in Dubai have been issued to Tesla and UAEV, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) announced on Wednesday at GITEX Global 2024 .

The awarding of licenses to operate electric vehicle charging stations “responds to the growing demand for more electric vehicle charging stations in Dubai,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa.

Al Tayer highlighted “the comprehensive regulatory framework reflects DEWA’s commitment to facilitating private sector participation in promoting sustainability and reducing emissions in the mobility sector.

“It also encourages investments in green mobility infrastructure in Dubai, contributing to a better quality of life, the innovative use of clean energy and achieving a balance between economic growth and environmental protection” , he added.






Dewa launched the region’s first public electric vehicle charging infrastructure in 2014.
