Fatal shooting in Milwaukee; 38-year-old man accused on the run

A 38-year-old Milwaukee man is accused of fatally shooting a woman near 77th Street and the Capitol in September. The accused is Antonio Johnson – and he faces the following charges:

  • First degree reckless homicide
  • Bail Rescue (Crime)
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon

According to the criminal complaint, Milwaukee Police were dispatched to the area near 77th Street and the Capitol for a report of a shooting/homicide on Monday, September 30. The victim was initially said to have been breathing. But despite the treatment provided by Milwaukee firefighters, the victim died from gunshot wounds. His death was pronounced on the spot.

A detective at the scene interviewed a witness to the events. The woman said she lived in a vehicle on site with the victim. At some point that day, the witness got into an argument with the victim. The victim walked away.

The complaint says a man the witness calls “P” approached the vehicle and began arguing about a missing television. At one point, the complaint says “P” hit the witness.

According to the witness, the shooting victim heard some of the commotion and ran back to the vehicle. The complaint states that she “took pepper spray and sprayed it on ‘P.’ At the same time as this was happening, ‘P’ was reaching into her bag and “pulled out a gun and immediately shot her legs.” The shooting victim fell to the ground – and the witness realized that “‘P’ had shot (the victim),” the complaint states.

When the witness spoke to police, she provided a photo number associated with “P.” The complaint states that in a law enforcement database, this number is associated with the defendant, Antonio Johnson. The witness also identified “P” as Johnson and “the person she saw shoot and kill (the victim),” the complaint states.
