Kamala Harris’ campaign received more than $6 million from the pro-Israel lobbying group J Street, including $2.7 million during the third quarter of this year.

Like Harris, J Street, a liberal alternative to the more hawkish American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), has called for a ceasefire from Israel but has not endorsed an embargo on arms according to which the United States would stop its arms shipments until Israel ceases its attacks on Gaza.

Several public opinions polls found that a majority of American adults want to stop sending weapons and supplies to Israel, and a survey A recently commissioned study by the Arab American Institute found that Harris’ national support would increase from 44 percent to 49 percent if she “suspended arms shipments and withheld diplomatic support for Israel until there was a ceasefire and the withdrawal of forces from Gaza.”

Disclosures filed yesterday with the Federal Election Commission show that J Street consolidated $2.7 million in contributions for Harris from early July to late September. The pooled contributions went to the Harris Victory Fund and Harris for President, and were made by J Street’s PAC. The group’s strong fundraising in the third quarter brought the total amount raised for the campaign to more than $6 million, including funds contributed while Biden was the candidate, according to J Street.

J Street’s bulk contributions to the Harris campaign came from hundreds of individual donors, including dozens who gave more than $10,000 and a handful who gave $100,000 or more.

“Our community is incredibly excited to elect Kamala Harris and the next generation of leaders she represents,” said J Street President Jeremy Ben-Ami. “She has the opportunity to chart a bold, new approach to Israel-Palestine and the broader Middle East, rooted in our shared values and free from the burden of what has been.” »

J Street did not respond to Sludge’s questions about its position on suspending arms shipments until a ceasefire is reached. On its website, J Street states that it does not support the United States imposing conditions on the billions in military aid it provides to Israel.
