Motorola has announced that its smartphones will also benefit from Google’s Circle to Search functionality, but many questions remain unanswered.

Since its launch in January, Google’s Circle to Search feature has expanded to more Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices, as well as more new phones recently. In September, Xiaomi launched its first devices with Circle to Search. Shortly after, Honor announced plans to launch the feature on its incredibly thin Magic V3 foldable and the Honor 200 series.

Motorola is also joining the party, having announced (under the radar) that Circle to Search would be coming to its smartphones.

Imagine being able to search for something without having to switch between apps. This is exactly what Circle to search deals — a new way to search on select Motorola¹ smartphones with a simple tap. With a simple circle, highlight, scribble, or tap, users can instantly get the information they need without leaving the app they’re in. Whether they are browsing social media and come across an unfamiliar term, spot a pair of shoes they would find. If you like to shop or want to know more about a restaurant’s menu, Circle to Search lets users search for what ‘they see on their device, no screenshot needed.

The big question right now, however, is which “select Motorola smartphones” will benefit from this feature.

There’s no indication in Motorola’s blog post, so your guess is as good as ours. Given the limited rollouts we’ve seen from other brands, it’s very likely that only a few models will be supported. The Razr 2024 foldables seem like an obvious choice, but it will likely be hit or miss beyond that.

Motorola has also not given any indication as to when Circle to Search will be available on its smartphones.
