Niger: Be agents of peace – Police urge NANS

The Niger State Commissioner of Police, Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, advised the student representatives, under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Joint Campus Council, Niger State Axis, led by Ismail Muhammad Mubarak, to be agents of peace, change and progress in their various campuses.

Danmamman gave this advice during a courtesy visit by the association’s leaders to Minna.

The Commissioner of Police, who congratulated the new cadres, assured them of an open door policy for cooperation, synergy, understanding and intervention on general issues affecting students in the state.

Danmamman also congratulated the student leaders and said that the quality of leadership among the students is improving, as suspicion and areas of friction between students and authorities have reduced significantly.

“The government, for its part, is more responsive and calms the suspicions of students and citizens. You must be an agent of peace, change and progress on your various campuses; play your role as a loyal citizen of the country.

“I encourage you to collaborate with security agencies by raising the red flag wherever necessary to attract intervention against the enemy of the state for a peaceful environment,” he said.

Danmamman further explained: “This is the time for all of us to make every effort to ensure the safety of life and property as we rely on community partnership and understanding to remove unwanted people from our community. No one can offer greater protection than your vigilance can offer; be vigilant, courageous and call for intervention if necessary.

Earlier, the president of the association had said that the purpose of the visit was to identify with the police command and seek mentorship and partnership.

He thanked the Commissioner of Police for handling student affairs, protests and strikes in the state without any confrontation or injury to any student.
