Traffic advisory issued for Sunday half marathon

Traffic in south and central Delhi will be affected and regulated for over six hours till 11 am on Sunday in view of the half marathon. Additionally, the Delhi Metro will start early in the morning to facilitate travel for participants.

“Traffic will be regulated on the above roads from 4:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. However, the uninterrupted movement of emergency vehicles will be facilitated. Cross traffic at intersections along the route will be permitted based on location and participant density,” the traffic advisory states.

According to the advisory, more than 35,000 participants are expected to take part in the Delhi Half Marathon which will be flagged off from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium around 4:45 am.

Further, in a statement, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said, “In order to facilitate the participants of the upcoming Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon to be held on Sunday at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi Metro train services will begin from 3:15 a.m. from terminal stations of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. all lines except Airport Express Line and Gray Line i.e. from Dhansa Bus Stop to Dwarka.

Services on the lines will be available between 3:15 a.m. and 4 a.m. with an interval of 15 minutes and between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. with an interval of 20 minutes outside the normal schedule followed from 6 a.m. in the stations. metro.

“For the convenience and guidance of participants, the marathon organizers will also deploy volunteers at specific metro stations including JLN Stadium, Jor Bagh, Janpath, Jangpura and Rajiv Chowk,” the statement added.

The event organizer bears the travel expenses to and fro to the event venue for the participants of Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon 2024. “For this, DMRC has provided the required number of QR tickets as per the applicable metro fare. For runners, round trips on the metro are free. Runners are advised to collect bracelets with a special QR code as well as their bibs from the organizers,” it says.
