A pantomime of Aladdin has been called for following a warning to the public that the series contains “innuendo”.

Cheltenham’s Everyman Theater previously faced allegations of bullying over songs about “vegans”, with some audience members saying the track amounted to “harassment”.

As a result, the theater decided to create a more “relaxed” version of the show ahead of the 2024 Christmas season.

However, some claim the theater has gone too far, issuing a new warning for this year’s Aladdin pantomime due to its “loud and brazen” performances.

During the show, which runs from November 29 to January 12, the theater has warned that some jokes could offend people and audiences are warned that the panto could also be noisy.

Their website said: “Panto is great fun but sometimes it can be a little loud and a little cheeky with jokes that only adults will understand.

“Please keep this in mind if you are bringing anyone under the age of 5 or someone who is nervous or more sensitive.”

The warning comes after one of their productions last year cut a Mother Goose song after several audience members complained that lyrics about vegans could lead to harassment.

One of the lines in the songs included that the “G in vegan means gassy, while the A means either anemic or boring.”

The theater shared with the Mail that “our Mother Goose pantomime is a live production that is constantly being refined and improved.

“The creative team behind this year’s production continually evaluates all aspects of the show to create the best and most entertaining experience possible for audiences.

“Pantomime is a unique collaborative art form in which the audience is a full part of the performance and we respect all of our audience’s views and comments.

“The relationship between our incredibly talented actors and the audience is what makes pantomime special and makes each performance a unique live event.”

In another incident last year, the show was called racist because it only featured all-white characters and included the lyrics “come down to our eastern city” in their production of Aladdin.
