Documentary screening raises funds for Churchill Animal Protection Society

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Ruth Gentry and her son, Roan, owe a lot to their rescue dog, Sammy. Sammy was rescued from the side of the road by the Churchill Animal Protection Society (CAPS) and was eventually reunited with his furry family with Ruth and Roan. After his adoption, Sammy suffered from a debilitating illness that left his back legs unable to move and forced him to use a wheelchair. However, he didn’t let that stop him and in fact, seeing that what makes Sammy different is also what makes him special, also helped Roan understand that having dyslexia and struggling in school is not something to be ashamed of.

Ruth, Roan and Sammy were featured in a short film from Mutual Rescue, a non-profit organization whose global initiative aims to inspire change by asserting that “saving animals also saves people”.

Ruth and Sammy stopped by Morning Break to invite the community to a screening of their documentary “Rescue is Forever” on Sunday, October 20 at Lead Dog Brewing (415 #E. 4th Street, Reno). The event will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. A $10 donation is suggested at the door and 100% of the profits will go to CAPS. CAPS is the only no-kill shelter in rural Fallon and if they close their doors, the dogs face euthanasia.
