Will Black Ops 6 anti-cheat be better after fake bans?

Cheaters won’t last an hour.

Black Ops 6 is only a week away from release, and Blizzard has finally acknowledged the most important part of its upcoming game: Black Ops 6 anti-cheat. According to the developer, Ricochet has received significant improvements.

Recently, Blizzard found itself in a sticky situation after players were falsely banned in Warzone and Modern Warfare 3. The developer acknowledged the issue and reversed the bans, but some players remained outraged by the unfair punishment.

In response, Blizzard promised a “progress report” to remedy the situation, and just a day later they delivered a list of upgrades for the Ricochet anti-cheat system.

In the new blog post, Blizzard promises that the improved version of Ricochet will ban cheaters as soon as they are spotted, on a good day, even within the first hour of play.

Black Ops 6 is set to release on October 25, and just a week before the global launch, the developer shared a list of upgrades for anti-cheat. According to Blizzard, they collected data from cheaters on the console and used it to train Ricochet to detect bad actors.

The data shared indicates that during the first weekend, cheaters lasted around ten matches before being banned. After the second weekend’s updates, this figure dropped to five matches, with 25% of bans occurring after a single match. When this was tested on PC, the software “came in a little hot,” causing the recent errors, Blizzard said.

Now, the developer is aiming to reduce the number of cheaters banned within an hour of playing the game, a change that will be implemented when Black Ops 6 goes live. Here are all the notable improvements:

  • An updated version of the kernel-level driver
  • New behavioral machine learning systems focused on detection speed
  • New machine learning detection models to analyze gameplay to combat aimbots
  • Updates when Ranked play launches, which include ongoing reviews to determine if rankings are accurate

These upgrades will be applied to all Call of Duty titles that use Ricochet anti-cheat, including the victim of the fake ban, including Call of Duty Warzone.
