Libyan national arrested in Germany on suspicion of planning attack on Israeli embassy – Emergency

BERLIN, October 19. /TASS/. German law enforcement officials likely prevented a terrorist attack on the Israeli embassy in Berlin by arresting a 28-year-old Libyan man suspected of planning the attack, Bild newspaper reported.

Police arrested the suspect during an operation in the town of Bernau, according to the report. An apartment was also searched in a high-rise building in the town of Sankt Augustin. Investigators said they believed the man was a supporter of the Islamic State group (banned in Russia).

German police were informed of the suspected terrorist by a foreign intelligence service. The Libyan allegedly planned to attack the Israeli diplomatic mission, then hide at his uncle’s house in Sankt Augustin.

The suspect arrived in Germany in 2022 and requested asylum the following year. His request was rejected and he was deported. An investigation is underway.
