A RESCUE operation was launched after two people jumped into the water.

Greater Manchester Police are at the scene at Dovestone Reservoir, which is on the boundary of Oldham and the Peak District National Park.

Cops said one person was recovered and is currently being treated.

But police added that “attempts are underway to locate the second person” and people are “asked to avoid the area”.

Coast guard and mountain rescue teams are currently on site.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) spokesperson told The Sun: “Shortly before 2.30pm today (Sunday October 20) fire crews were called to Dove Stone Reservoir in Oldham following to reports of a person in the water.

“Three fire engines from Mossley, Stalybridge and Eccles along with the Leigh Water Incident Unit quickly attended the scene.

“Teams are working alongside their emergency service colleagues and remaining present.”

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Emergency services are currently responding to reports of two people entering the water at Dovestones Reservoir.

“One person was recovered from the water and is currently being treated by paramedics.

“Attempts are underway to find the second person.

“A search operation is underway with emergency services, including the coastguard and mountain rescue, on scene.”
