1. Daily Nation

The publication reports how security agents bugged Rigathi Gachagua’s hotel room on August 30 during his tour of the Nyanza region.

On the night of August 30, Rigathi Gachagua, then vice president, visited the Acacia Premier Hotel in Kisumu and had a long meeting with an MP from the Rift Valley region.

What Mr. Gachagua didn’t know was that some people far from that room were receiving minute-by-minute updates on the deliberations from the presidential suite.

This recorded conversation is now at the center of the falling out between the DP and his boss, William Ruto.

After the Nyanza tour and the emergence of the secret conversation, relations between the DP and Ruto were so serious that the following week the helicopter carrying Gachagua was recalled to Nairobi moments after landing in Kirinyaga.

Some officials who tried to reconcile the two said the secret recordings were the main reason why Ruto refused to forgive.

Gachagua, who spoke upon his release from Karen Hospital, revealed that agents of the National Intelligence Service accessed his room in Kisumu on August 30.

2. The standard

The newspaper reported President William Ruto’s indirect attack on his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.

In his speech on Sunday, October 20 on Mashujaa Day, the president spoke out strongly against tribalism.

He stressed that any attempt to exclude, alienate or disenfranchise any individual, group or community was contrary to national identity.

Without naming names, Ruto said Kenyans have an inalienable right to a full, fair and equitable share of the country’s resources.

The Head of State called on Kenyans to be as courageous as the first generation of freedom fighters, encouraging them to break with the past and not be captivated by the fear of change.

“Our heroes did not come from a single village and did not speak a single language. They were numerous and diverse, united by a common commitment to confront an unjust, exclusionary and oppressive system in pursuit of national liberation,” Ruto said.

The Swahili publication reported on former Vice President Rigathi Gachagua’s revelations that he had survived two assassination attempts.

Speaking at Karen Hospital on Sunday, October 20, Gachagua claimed to have survived two assassination attempts before his removal.
