Israel-Hezbollah war: Lebanon announces 13 dead in Israeli strike near south Beirut hospital

Israel Hezbollah War Live Updates: The Israeli military apologized Monday for a strike that mistakenly killed three Lebanese soldiers in southern Lebanon, explaining that it did not intend to target the Lebanese army. The army said its forces believed they were targeting a vehicle linked to the Hezbollah militant group.

Hezbollah recently said it had entered a new phase in its conflict with Israeli forces, following the death of senior Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in a clash with Israeli troops in Gaza. Sinwar played a key role in orchestrating the attack on southern Israel, which sparked the latest wave of violence across the Middle East.

While many – including Israel’s allies and residents of Gaza – hope that Sinwar’s death could mark a turning point toward ending the war, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas have reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the fight until their objectives are achieved. Netanyahu pledged to eliminate Hamas and rescue hostages held by the group, while Hamas said the captives would only be released if a ceasefire was established, if Israeli forces withdrew from Gaza and if the Palestinian prisoners were released.

The conflict, which began when Hamas-led militants breached the Israeli security fence on October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of around 1,200 people, mainly civilians, and the kidnapping of 250 others, has resulted in significant loss of life and considerable damage. The ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza has killed more than 42,000 Palestinians, according to local health authorities, who make no distinction between combatants and civilians. The war has ravaged large parts of Gaza, displacing around 90% of its 2.3 million residents. Follow us for more live updates
