Rescue teams said they were doing “all they could” to find a man who fell into a reservoir while paddleboarding as their search continued for a third day.

An operation to find the missing man has been underway since Sunday after a couple went missing at Dovestone Reservoir, near Oldham – and a woman was later pulled safely from the water.

The search was called off late last night in “very difficult” conditions, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said.

Efforts resumed earlier while a large cordon remained in place around the reservoir, on the edge of the Peak District.

Specially trained officers were involved in the search, alongside underwater drones, helicopters and fire trucks.

A police spokesperson said staff were “continuing to support the family” of the missing man.
