Nigeria: Security Agents Foil Kidnapping Attempt Against Tribune Editor’s Family

Abuja— ….While the attackers shoot 3 soldiers

The Nasarawa State Anti-Kidnapping Squad early yesterday foiled an attempted kidnapping of the family of Dr. Leon Usigbe, Abuja Bureau Chief of the Nigerian Tribune.

The incident reportedly happened around 12:50 a.m., at his residence on Kurape Road in Karshi, an area adjacent to the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

It was noted that the attackers shot and injured one of the neighborhood security guards who were standing guard during the attack.

One of the attackers, according to nearby sources, managed to scale the perimeter fence of Dr. Usigbe’s house and unlocked the gate from inside, allowing others to enter.

After entering the compound, the attackers allegedly damaged the windows with stones and attempted to break the front and rear doors, but without success.

The anti-kidnapping team, which had just been deployed from Lafia due to the increase in kidnappings in the area, was alerted and arrived within minutes.

When they arrived, the attackers opened fire, injuring three soldiers.

In response, the squad returned fire, forcing the kidnappers to flee before they could gain access to the building.

Dr Usigbe was not at home during the attack, but his wife and children were visibly shaken.

The incident marks the third kidnapping attempt in the region in three months, with two families having already paid ransoms for the release of the kidnapped members.
