Search continues in missing child’s former home

Gardaí (Irish police) investigating the suspected murder of an eight-year-old boy are set to resume their forensic searches at a former family home in County Louth.

Kyran Durnin was reported missing in Drogheda at the end of August.

The searched terraced property in Dundalk – around 20 miles north of Drogheda – was the family’s home for several years until May 2024, according to Gardaí.

Searches at the property in Emer Terrace, Dundalk, began on Tuesday.

Detectives believe he may have been killed two years ago.

Last week, Gardaí upgraded missing child investigation to murder investigation.

On August 30, Kyran was reported missing from his home in Drogheda with his mother, Dayla Durnin, who was later found, but there is no sign of her son.

Gardaí said technical and forensic examinations would be carried out at the house, where Kyran lived until May, and the garden and adjoining open area would also be searched.

The “current tenants of this house have no connection with Kyran or his disappearance,” Gardaí added.
