China unveils regulations on public transport in cities

BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Li Qiang signed a State Council decree, issuing a set of regulations on public transportation in cities.

China aims to build a safe, convenient, efficient, environmentally friendly and economical public transportation system in cities, according to regulations that will take effect on December 1 this year.

Regulations state that municipal governments are responsible for the development of public transportation.

The document contains provisions to strengthen the planning and regulation of public transport, ensure the supply of land for this purpose and improve investment and financing mechanisms.

The document, consisting of six chapters and 55 articles, also demands efforts to improve public transport services and ensure safety.
