Hiker late in Davis County found alive

DAVIS COUNTY, Utah — An overdue hiker in Davis County who had not been seen or heard from since Tuesday evening was found alive and unharmed Wednesday.

Late Tuesday, Wes Whitnah was last reported to have been reported between Thurston Peak and the Fernwood Recreation Site. The Davis County Sheriff’s Office said the 64-year-old man called his wife around 7 p.m. Tuesday to tell her he had walked farther than expected but was on his way home.

The communication with his wife was the last time Whitnah was heard from until Wednesday.

The Davis County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team worked with the Layton City Police Department and the Utah Department of Public Safety in the search for Whitnah.
