The Beer Hog and Blue’s Bourbon & Brews accused of running illegal bingo games

The Beer Hog and Blue’s Bourbon & Brews have been publicly informed by the City of Pelham that their business licenses may be revoked following a public hearing on 11/4/24, at Pelham City Hall.

Both were charged with illegal gambling by hosting bingo games.

We spoke with a manager at The Beer Hog who said they haven’t had games in a long time, don’t make money from them or know it’s illegal not to think about it since other businesses in town hosted bingo nights.

The manager of Blue’s Bourbon & Brews declined to comment on the accusations at this time.

Both businesses face the same charges as Pub 261 and Lil Bits Tavern during a public hearing on 10/22/24 in which the City Council voted unanimously for both businesses to retain their licenses.

However, both of these companies were approached by an outside entity, Alabama Blazin Bingo, which operated the games at both sites.

A look at the Pub 261 Facebook page shows advertisements for regularly scheduled bingo nights three nights a week since at least April 2022, with the first mention of a weekly bingo night being in 2021.

Crystal Jenkins, owner of Alabama Blazin Bingo, was also unaware of the legality of bingo in Pelham. She made a statement to ABC 33/40 the day after the hearing saying:

We were blindsided by it… If for one second we had been told it was illegal, we never would have started Alabama Blazin Bingo.

Jenkins also said no legal action has been filed against her or her company at this time.
