Early voting sees huge jump this year in Central Florida ahead of Election Day

With just 13 days until Election Day, long lines are already forming at early voting locations – like at the Alafaya Branch Library – and stretching into parking lots as voters take advantage of early voting opportunities.

Bob Jones, an early voter in Orange County, explained why he was voting early.

“Because of everything we face. We are facing corruption from the top down, and it can only get worse,” Jones said.

Many voters said they chose to vote early to avoid possible problems on Election Day.

“It is vital that we vote today because we stop panicking. Maybe our vote will be late or we won’t leave work on time,” said Marcia Hurlbutt, an online voter.

Volusia County Elections Supervisor Lisa Lewis said the county is seeing a record average of 11,000 early votes cast daily.

“People are going to vote this year. First, it’s a presidential year and there are controversial amendments on the ballot, which gets people out,” Lewis said.

In the 2022 general election, 87,650 early ballots had already been cast by day three in Central Florida. This year, that number more than tripled to nearly 290,000.
