Law enforcement requests shelter be set up near County Road 14B

Routt County law enforcement announced a shelter request around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday due to police action near County Road 14 and County Road 14B.

The nature of the incident remains unclear. Drones operated by law enforcement were seen in the area shortly after 11 p.m. Officers from the Routt County Sheriff’s Office, Steamboat Springs Police Department and the Colorado State Patrol all responded to the scene.

Several officers on site declined to comment on the situation, which remained active as of 1 a.m.

Officers on site would not say why the containment order was given or what the nature of the threat that sparked the alert was. In response to a question, a police officer said, “Maybe I should shoot someone,” but provided no further information.

A call to the sheriff’s office was not returned as of 1:20 a.m. A Routt County Alerts notification will be sent once law enforcement determines everything is clear.
