New outdoor public fitness court coming to Wyandotte next spring – The News Herald

Wyandotte is building a new public fitness court outdoors at Pulaski Park that will be functional by spring 2025.

Superintendent of Recreation Sheryl Riley said the project will be funded by a $50,000 grant from Priority Health as well as $110,000 from Wyandotte’s parks account, which was approved by city council at the Oct. 14 meeting.

The court will feature a variety of outdoor exercise equipment like pull up bars and weights.

“It’s an area where anybody can do it of all, you know, ages and abilities and things like that,” Riley said.

She said it’s especially important for Wyandotte to have an outdoor fitness court that’s free to the public because the city doesn’t have a public recreation center for people to go work out regularly.

The concrete for the court will be poured within the next few weeks, and then the rest of the park will be installed and fully functional in the spring, she said. Pulaski Park is located at the corner of 12th Street and Oxford Court.

According to the National Fitness Campaigns website, there are currently fitness courts in 14 of Michigan’s 83 counties.

Nearby facilities exist in Lincoln Park, Dearborn Heights, River Rouge and Brownstown Township. There is also one that is in progress in Ecorse.
