KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Union workers at Worlds of Fun have agreed to a three-year deal with the park after months of negotiations and a day of protest by SEIU Local 1 members.

On Wednesday evening, SEIU Local 1 announced its agreement to the deal, which it said includes three years of guaranteed raises, increased paid leave, guaranteed life insurance and co-pay retirement contributions. company profits, as well as a guaranteed minimum of 10 hours of rest. time between shifts.

“I couldn’t be more proud of my colleagues and the way we conducted these negotiations. This victory is a perfect example of what happens when workers come together and realize the power we have when we stand together,” said Local 1 member and Worlds of Fun carpenter Don Kincaid. “At the start of the negotiations, we were not taken seriously. But being able to provide for our families is a serious thing, being able to pay the bills is a serious thing, and my colleagues and I were determined to win a contract that showed us the respect we deserve.

The union said ratification of the contract came after Worlds of Fun workers participated in several bargaining sessions, including one that lasted 21 hours, and a 95% turnout in the ratification vote.

On October 8, Worlds of Fun maintenance workers gathered outside the park entrance to protest, saying they were working under a contract that had expired since February. On Thursday evening, SEIU Local 1 leaders said the contract included retroactive pay for 2024 to cover hours worked during the extended negotiations.

On Friday, October 11, Worlds of Fun told KCTV it was “pleased to agree in principle to a new employment contract covering Worlds of Fun’s unionized employees.”
