SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO) – A weapons detection system will be installed at Shaker Heights High School within a few weeks, according to Superintendent Dr. David Glasner.

Dr. Glasner said district and high school administrators are reviewing several of these systems and are visiting neighboring school districts to observe the systems in action.

According to Dr. Glasner, whatever system you choose, it will be in place by December 2.

In addition to the security system, the district also works with faculty and staff to improve school culture.

“We also know that school culture cannot be separated from school safety and that the best safety system in any school is building strong, positive relationships between students and adults,” said Dr. Glasner.

Security has already been increased for college football games, after a Shaker Heights High School student brought a gun to the Sept. 14 game against Euclid.

School officials said fortunately the student never made it into the stadium.

Screening systems are now used at the stadium entrance and only students from Shaker Heights and the opposing school are allowed to attend varsity football games, and they must present a student ID.
