Commenter banned from driving and fined after four-car crash

F1 commentator and pundit Billy Monger has been banned from driving and fined after admitting driving without due care and attention during a crash in Surrey.

On January 19, Monger was involved in a significant accident while driving his Toyota Supra, hitting a parked Volkswagen Lupo, Volkswagen Golf and Citroën C at around 11:55 p.m., then hitting a lamp post, a wall and a hedge, his car coming to a stop in a garden.

Billy Monger is banned from driving and fined

The incident happened in Snatts Hill, Surrey, and resulted in a 49-day driving ban for Monger, who must also pay fines and costs totaling £2,694, after he admitted driven without due care and attention.

Monger appeared at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on October 4.

The 25-year-old, who suffered a horrific crash at Donington in 2017 which resulted in both his legs being amputated, appeared widely on the British motoring scene before moving into F1 commentary and punditry in the part of Channel 4’s sports coverage.

Rick Scholey, supervisor of Surrey Police’s Road Collision Team, said: “Monger was not paying attention when he lost control of his car, causing him to collide with three cars parked, causing significant damage to vehicles before subsequently colliding with a vehicle. hedge and wall belonging to a neighboring house.

“Luckily no one was on the road at the time, otherwise it could have had much more serious consequences.”

A spokesperson said News from the sky: “Billy Monger was driving a black Toyota Supra when he was involved in the collision in Snatts Hill at around 11:55 p.m. on January 19, 2024.

“Monger was traveling on a road at 30mph when he collided with a Volkswagen Lupo, a Volkswagen Golf and a Citroen, causing damage to all three cars.

“A lamp post, hedge and wall in the front garden of a neighboring property were also damaged.”

Outside of Formula 1, Monger has appeared on Celebrity Race Across the World and will compete in the 2024 Ironman World Championship triathlon in Kona, Hawaii on October 26, raising money for Comic Relief.
