At 94 years old, Clint Eastwood is set to release his latest film with Juror No. 2 in cinemas next month.

And it turns out the Hollywood legend was recently asked to direct a new Donald Trump movie.

The Apprentice, which stars Sebastain Stan as a young Trump during his years in real estate in 1970s and 1980s New York, has struggled to gain exposure.

The new film’s director, Ali Abbasi, told Le Figaro that other filmmakers did not want to risk their careers on the controversial film because major studios turned it down.

Both Paul Thomas Anderson and Eastwood declined to lead the project because “they had to assess the commercial risk”.

Eastwood is also a political conservative and a registered libertarian, although he supported Democratic candidate Michael Bloomberg in the 2020 presidential election.

This was after the Hollywood icon changed his mind about Trump, who in 2016 said he was “on to something” and that “secretly, everyone is sick of political correctness, and s ‘kiss’. After The Apprentice’s world premiere at Cannes in May, the film struggled to find a domestic distributor due to content issues and an attempt by Trump’s legal team to block its release. Nonetheless, Briarcliff Entertainment reached a deal in August.

Succession star Jeremy Strong, who plays Trump mentor and lawyer Roy Cohn on The Apprentice, said recently: “I don’t know if people in this country realize it, but this movie was almost banned from release in this country. , which for me makes it even more essential. I find it really disturbing that in 2024 we have almost not been allowed to see a film that I think portrays this person in a fairly accurate and truthful way.

The Apprentice is released in UK cinemas on October 18, 2024.
