Olympic star Imane Khelif has not been stripped of her gold medal or banned from boxing, despite inaccurate claims made online.

Khelif, 25, won gold for Algeria at the Paris Olympics this summer in the women’s welterweight category.

While she had been cleared to compete in the French capital by the International Olympic Committee, her triumphs were under constant scrutiny after she was disqualified from last year’s Women’s World Championships for allegedly breaking eligibility rules. of the International Boxing Association (IBA).

An IOC spokesperson told Reuters: There is absolutely no truth to these claims.

The WBO (World Boxing Organisation) denied testing Khelif in any way or having any communication with her, wishing her luck in the next stages of her career.

“The World Boxing Organization has informed that it has not tested or banned boxer Imane Khelif, who won a gold medal at the 2024 Olympics boxing tournament in Paris, France,” it said. a press release.

“Reports claiming the WBO banned Khelif are obviously false. We have had no communication with Khelif. We congratulate her and wish her good luck in all her future endeavors.

WBO Legal Advisor, Gustavo Olivieri Esq. added: “Any reports to the contrary are blatantly false and ill-intentioned. She worked hard to win this medal.

Khelif’s boxing coach, Mohamed Chaoua, also confirmed that these claims were false.
