“Suspicious” packages lead to drug seizures, three arrests

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Three people are facing drug and weapons charges after suspicious packages alerted law enforcement, according to the West Tennessee Drug Task Force.

On Monday, WTDTF agents began investigating what they described as a “suspicious” package from a delivery company. A narcotics dog alerted officers to the presence of the package, leading to the execution of a search warrant on the package which apparently contained approximately four pounds of marijuana.

Officers delivered the package to a Crockett County home on East Church Street in Alamo, Tennessee, and executed a search warrant. Reports indicate they seized approximately four pounds of marijuana, more than 200 Suboxone strips, a loaded gun and $48,001 in suspected drug money.

One person, who is a previously convicted felon, was arrested at his home and charged with several drug and weapons-related charges, according to WTDTF.

Additional evidence was recovered that led officers to the home of a second suspect on Cherryville Road in Haywood County.

While awaiting a search warrant at the home, reports indicate a second package identical to the first was delivered. It contained two additional pounds of marijuana.

More marijuana was discovered inside the home, along with a gun, electronic scales and more than $500 in suspected drug money. WTDTF said agents also found evidence suggesting both homes had received at least 30 to 60 pounds of marijuana over the course of two months.

Two men were arrested at the second scene and charged with drugs and weapons.
