Dr. Clarence Clottey faces charges over sexual assault allegations Dr. Clarence Clottey faces charges over sexual assault allegations

A Canada-based Ghanaian doctor, Dr Clarence Clottey, has been banned from carrying out certain examinations on female patients following multiple allegations of sexual assault.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) has placed restrictions on the 64-year-old Oakville doctor, prohibiting him from examining any patient’s breasts, pelvis or rectum.

The decision was made in response to previous allegations of misconduct, including accusations of sexual assault dating back several years, reports toronto.citynews.ca.

Dr. Clottey, who worked at Bristol Family Physicians in Oakville, first faced legal trouble in 2016 when he was arrested and charged with six counts of sexual assault. These accusations were made by six patients who testified that the doctor touched them inappropriately during medical examinations. However, in 2018, Clottey was acquitted of all charges.

Despite his acquittal, further allegations surfaced in 2019, with Clottey accused of sexually assaulting a female patient in 2014. As a result, the PCSO placed restrictions on his practice in January 2020, prohibiting him from performing examinations breast, pelvic or rectal on women. patients. Instead, the doctor was required to refer these tests to another doctor.

The CPSO had also suspended Clottey’s medical license for a year in 2017 following previous allegations.

The restrictions are part of an ongoing effort to ensure the safety of patients under Dr. Clottey’s care, as investigations continue to determine whether there may be additional victims.

Most recently, Clottey was arrested again in October 2024, after a patient accused him of sexual assault during a visit to his clinic. He has since been charged with sexual assault and has been released pending a court appearance.

Authorities released Clottey’s photo, believing there may be other victims who have not yet come forward. Police are urging anyone with information to contact the Halton Regional Police Service.

As the investigation continues, the restrictions imposed by the CPSO remain in effect and the future of Clottey’s medical career remains uncertain.
