Search resumes for man missing after boat capsizes on River Thames | UK News

The search has resumed for a man who has been missing since a boat capsized in the River Thames.

The man in his sixties had been travel in a small rowing boat with five other people on a stretch of the river at Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey.

Surrey Police said they were called to Sunbury Lock around 8:50 a.m. on Friday to reports of a small boat capsizing.

Officers attended the scene with South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.

The other five people were all found safe and sound.

A police spokesperson said investigations to establish the full circumstances of what happened “remain ongoing”.

“Unfortunately, we believe a man in his 60s may still be in the river,” the spokesperson added.

“His relatives have been informed and are being kept informed.”

A SECAmb spokesperson said on Saturday that three of the five people rescued from the river had been taken to hospital for further checks.

North Surrey Chief Inspector Andy Jenkins added: “This is a very distressing time for everyone involved and we continue to support our partners in the search for the missing man.

“Our investigations to establish the exact circumstances of the boat capsizing remain ongoing, but at this time we do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances or third party involvement.

“We will look to share further updates with you as we have them.”
