Status of yellow rain warnings on route to Cork and Waterford, with ‘spot flooding’ expected

Cork and Waterford have been issued a yellow rain warning, which is expected to come into effect later on Sunday evening.

Heavy and persistent rain will lead to occasional flooding, Met Éireann said in the warning issued on Saturday afternoon.

It is valid for Cork from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

While for Waterford the warning starts at 6pm and lasts until 2am on Monday.

Elsewhere on Saturday, most areas will be dry from mid-afternoon, followed only by well-dispersed showers.

The weather will be mostly dry and clear this evening, with Met Éireann saying things will be ‘chilly’

Temperatures will reach a maximum of 13°C on Saturday.

For the rest of the country, Sunday will start largely dry with foggy spells, according to the latest forecasts.

However, clouds will gradually thicken as scattered episodes of rain and drizzle develop.

In the evening, persistent and heavy rain will affect southern counties with occasional flooding.

Temperatures will reach highs of 7°C to 10°C in the northern half of the country, although they will be slightly warmer in the south with highs of 14°C.

A yellow weather warning is generally issued for weather conditions that do not pose a threat to the general population but are potentially dangerous on a localized scale.

It is usually issued as a rain alert if rainfall between 30mm and 50mm is expected in 24 hours.
