Ontario, British Columbia and Manitoba invite candidates to apply for provincial nomination

Three Canadian provinces this week issued invitations to candidates to apply for their respective Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

The PNP was introduced in 1998 to expand immigration benefits across Canada. To do this, it shares responsibility for immigration between the federal government and the provinces and territories.

Today, it is one of the main ways to immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker.

Being nominated by a province does not confer permanent resident (PR) status. Candidates nominated by a province must always go through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

However, it helps strengthen a candidate’s candidacy. Express Entry candidates who receive a provincial nomination get an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, almost guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in an upcoming Express Entry draw.

Provincial immigration results from October 5 to 11

Ontario

On October 8, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) issued invitations to eligible candidates for the employer’s job offer: Foreign Worker Stream.

It issued 885 invitations to people in specialized trades, with a minimum score of 48.

In addition, the province issued 841 invitations under the same stream as part of a targeted draw for other priority occupations. To receive an invitation, candidates had to obtain a score of 52 or higher, as well as a job offer in a priority profession. A range of priority occupations, sorted by NOC code, can be viewed here.

British Columbia

On October 8, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCNPP) invited over 173 candidates under the Skilled Worker, International Graduate stream.

The minimum threshold varied by industry. The breakdown can be seen below:

Drawing type Minimum score Number of invitations
Child care 83 44
Construction 89 25
Health care 99 21
Technology 116 83
Veterinary care 80

Manitoba

On October 10, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) held three draws.

The first took place as part of an occupation-specific selection for Manitoba Skilled Worker stream candidates. The draw issued 82 invitations to people who had completed post-secondary studies in the province. The cutoff score for the draw was 845 points.

The same day, the province invited 114 candidates under the International Education stream.

Finally, the MPNP organized a draw under the Skilled Workers Abroad component and invited 38 people, with a minimum score of 711. To be considered for this draw, candidates had to be invited by the MPNP as part of a “Strategic Recruitment Initiative”.
