Weybridge Rowing Club confirmed it was one of its boats which “met difficulties following an incident on the water”.

In a statement it said: “The club is working closely with the emergency services, police, Environment Agency and other agencies to assist in the search for the missing person and investigate the events which took place.”

Three of those rescued were taken to hospital for further checks, an ambulance service spokesperson said.

Efforts are underway to determine how the boat capsized.
