The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of ​​Rivers State has announced the removal of the former governor of the state, named Nyesom Wike, from the administrative block of the council secretariat.

This was announced in a statement issued by the board chairman, Chijioke Ihunwo, in a message shared via X on Sunday morning.

The council chairman also attached a video showing the moment the institution was renamed Senator Dr Obi Wali.

The President wrote: “We have changed the name of Wike in Obio/Akpor Council administrative block and replaced it with the name of Senator Dr. Obi Wali. »

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, earlier swore in the council chairmen-elect of the 23 local government areas, including Chijioke Ihunwo.

The council chairmen were inaugurated at a ceremony held earlier this month at the Executive Council Room of the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The council election was marked by heightened tension due to strong opposition from Wike loyalists, amid division between the former governor and his successor, Governor Fubara.

Despite the challenges, the Popular Action Party (APP) emerged victorious, securing 22 of the 23 presidential positions.

The removal of Wike’s name by the Chijioke Ihunwo government is linked to the ongoing political crisis between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and Governor Fubara.

Last Tuesday, Ihunwo urged President Tinubu to remove Wike as FCT minister, accusing him of disrupting the Rivers Local Government elections and threatening democracy.

In an interview with Arise News, Ihunwo said: “There is no need to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State, Rivers State is very peaceful.

“What we want to do is ask Mr. President to call Nyesom Wike to order. Nyesom Wike threatens democracy under Mr President’s administration. Wike is not God, Wike is a human being. Our president should call him to order.

“He has disrupted our state. Go to other states, everywhere is very peaceful. Why is this Rivers State? Wike cannot own Rivers State, Rivers State is too big for him to own.

“We also call on Mr President to address Nyesom Wike or sack him immediately because he does not even deserve to be part of Mr President’s cabinet,” he said.
