WSL: Aston Villa and Leicester continue their quest for a first league victory

The match held at Villa Park saw the Midlands sides play a toothless match And goalless draw as Aston Villa and Leicester continue their search for a WSL win this season.

It was another day of celebration for Aston Villa, as midfielder Jordan Nobbs broke the WSL appearance record and was presented with a framed jersey.

D’Angelo; Maritz, Parker, Patten, Turner, Nobbs, Kearns, Grant, Hanson, Nunes, Daly

Leitzig; Nevin, Tierney, Bott, Howard, Takarada, Goodwin, Kees, Chossenotte, Momiki, Mace

The two Midlands sides clashed in a cagey first half at Villa Park. Despite a vibrant crowd cheering on the teams. Leicester didn’t have a recognized striker in the matchday squad and it showed. The Foxes looked toothless going forward despite a big change made in both attack and defense by Ruby Mace. Villa would have expected to test Leicester’s goal further, but the Foxes held on to see it 0-0 at the break.

Leicester made one change at the break, with Asmita Ale replacing CJ Bott in defence. The match was an end-to-end affair, but scrappy play saw neither team achieve a goal. Leicester forced formation changes, but as they only had defensive players to substitute on, they only had a few natural attacking options. In a frantic final few minutes, Villa had their best chance through Anna Patten as the ball raced around the penalty area and from close range she found a rejuvenated Leitzig in goal who parried it to score safe.

Aston Villa and Leicester are tied in the table, ninth and tenth.

Leicester will be hoping for good news regarding their injured strikers as they take on fellow WSL strugglers Everton at the King Power, which is already looking like a must-win for both teams. Villa travel to the Joie Stadium to face Manchester City in search of their first victory.
