Israeli mining magnate Beny Steinmetz has been released from detention in Greece but faces a travel ban pending a court decision on an arrest warrant issued by Romania, authorities confirmed Monday.

The arrest warrant, linked to alleged involvement in a criminal organization, prompted Greek police to arrest Steinmetz upon his arrival at Athens International Airport. He was released on bail after appearing in court.

Legal experts point out that Romania’s renewed request is controversial, following previous rulings by Greek and Italian courts against his extradition. Steinmetz’s defense rejects the charges and calls the extradition efforts “baseless” and “abusive.”
