Jacksonville Jaguars’ Doug Pederson weighs in on Andre Cisco comments

play

Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Pederson said he doesn’t believe fourth-year guard Andre Cisco was intentionally calling out his teammates when he made comments after Sunday’s 35-16 loss to the Jacksonville Bears. Chicago to London, according to which he felt there was “a lot of abandonment”. in their fifth defeat of the season against just one victory.

“That’s obviously his observation,” Pederson said on a Zoom call with media from London on Monday. “I don’t think it was necessarily meant to harm anything or point the finger at anyone or anything like that. I think sometimes when you go into a game like (Sunday), sometimes you feel like we were on the other side too… we’ve had games where we had that type of success and you feel like way with your opponent. But again, I don’t think that’s necessarily a criticism. »

Cisco told Action News’ Brent Martineau that the way the Jaguars lost, with turnovers, dropped passes, penalties at crucial times and mental errors such as getting flagged 12 men on the field was “extremely worrying and dangerous.

“In a situation like that you can feel when we’re playing as one and when we’re not and it felt very early in the game, maybe after halftime we weren’t playing as one.”

What Doug Pederson said about the team’s “culture”

Pederson also had to explain another quote: one he made himself. In a postgame interview with 1010-XL reporter Bucky Brooks, Pederson talked about “changing a culture.”

Pederson said the comment was intended to ensure players did not feel “mentally defeated.”

“We lost a few games here, didn’t we? said Pederson, who is in his third season as Jaguars coach, with an overall record of 19-21. “So we want to change this culture to make it a winning culture. This is why we coach and this is why we play. If you feel like you’re going into a game where you don’t have a chance, then you won’t have a chance. You’re not going to give yourself the opportunity to win this match. So that’s what I wanted to say about that culture there. We just have to make sure these guys stay mentally… positive with each other. Go out, have fun and play.

What Doug Pederson Had to Say About Jaguars Free Agents

The Jaguars have had a mixed bag at best with the free agents they signed during the offseason.

Receiver/returner Devin Duvernay is on the four-week reserve/injured list, wide receiver Gabe Davis caught two touchdown passes against the Bears but had several key passes this season, defensive tackle Arik Armstead only 10 total tackles and incompletions was almost the force he was in San Francisco and cornerback Ronald Darby struggled to cover and took two penalties against Chicago that converted third downs to a touchdown.

Pederson was quick to defend these players

“Those are things we’re going to have to look at,” he said of free agents. “I think these guys are helping us. We all need to do better. I’m not here to point fingers at anyone, just to make sure we get the best out of everyone. We put the best 11 on the field. I know Gabe is a little upset right now and Arik worked on his injury in the off season and got back to work. (Darby) is still doing good things. He is in a good position. He had opportunities. It just hasn’t necessarily translated on the ground. But he’s doing well…(we) like where he’s at.

Pederson said the players have been practicing well. Why hasn’t this been carried over into the games?

I wish I had a crystal ball to answer this question. I’m not going to sit here and make excuses. It’s not the right thing to do, but it’s something we need to understand. We need to figure this out together, honestly, why this doesn’t always translate.
