To post an obituary, please include the information from the obituary checklist below in an email to [email protected]. It is not possible to place them via our website. Please feel free to contact our obituary office at 651-228-5263 with any questions.

General information:

• Your full name,
• Address (city, state, zip code),
• Phone number,
• And another phone number (if applicable)

Obituary specification:

• Name of the deceased,
• Obituary text,
• A photo in JPEG or PDF format is preferred, TIF and other files are accepted, we will contact you if there is a problem with the photo.
• Announcement broadcast dates
• There is a discount for races lasting more than one day, but this must be scheduled on the first race date to apply.
• If a photo is used it must be used on both days for the discount to apply, contact us for more information.

Policies:

Verification of death:

In order to post obituaries, the name and telephone number of the funeral home/cremation company is required. We must contact the funeral home/cremation company handling the arrangements during their business hours to verify the death. If the deceased’s body was donated to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program or a similar program, their telephone number is required for verification.

Please allow plenty of time to contact them, especially during their limited weekend hours.

A death certificate is also acceptable for this purpose, but only one of these two options is necessary.

Guestbook and external websites:

We are not permitted to reference other media sources with a guestbook or obituary placed elsewhere when publishing an obituary in print and online. Instead, we may post a funeral home website or family email to contact us; contact us for any questions about this.

Obituary process:

Once your submission is complete, we will fax or email you a proof for review before publication in the journal. This proof includes the price and the days the notice is scheduled to appear.

Please review the evidence carefully. We must be notified of errors or changes before the notice appears in the Pioneer Press, based on each day’s deadlines.

After publication, we will not be responsible for any errors that may arise after final proofreading.

Online:

All obituaries appear on TwinCities.com with a permanent presence in the online guestbook. If you want to delete the online presence, you can contact us to delete the online guestbook. Changes to an online obituary can be processed through the Obituaries Office. Call us for further questions.

Payment procedure:

Prepayment is required for all obituaries prior to publication by the deadline noted below in our calendar. Please call 651-228-5263 with your payment information after receiving the proof and approving its contents.

Credit card: Payment accepted over the phone only due to PCI (Payment Card Industry) regulations

TEF: Check by phone. Please provide your routing number and account number.

Species: Accepted to our FRONT COUNTER Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Prices:

• The minimum fee is $162 for the first 10 lines.
• Each line after the first 10 costs $12.20.
• If the ad is less than 10 lines, the minimum rate will be charged $162.
• On a second fulfillment date, lines cost $8.20 per line, starting with the first line.
• For example: if the first run date was 20 rows, the cost would be $164.
• Each photo posted costs $125 per day.
• For example: 2 photos in the newspaper over 2 days would equate to 4 photo costs at $500.

Please respect deadlines to ensure your obituary is published on the requested day.

Unlike an obituary, Memoriam submissions are memories of a loved one who has passed away. Rates for a memorial differ from those for obituaries.
