Google is bringing Gemini Nano to more Pixel devices and improving Recorder summaries

Pixel is bringing several new and improved features to its hardware as part of its June feature update. The update will begin rolling out today to all supported Pixel phones, tablets and smartwatches.

First of all, Google is expanding access to its , which will be . So far, it was only available on Pixel 8 Pro. The model will initially be available as a developer option on Pixel 8 and 8a and can be enabled in the device settings.

The Recorder application will also receive support based on artificial intelligence. Google says you’ll get more detailed recording summaries on Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel 8a compared to earlier versions of the app. if you have a Pixel 6 or newer and there is the option to export transcripts to text files and Google Docs.

You can now easily connect your Pixel 8a, Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro to an external display via USB-C to view videos and photos on a larger screen. For Pixel Fold and Pro Pixel 6th generation and later, you can choose the lens you want to use when taking photos.

Meanwhile, Pixel 6 and newer models will support reverse phone number lookups directly from the call log. These devices and the Pixel tablet will also be able to “automatically identify the best moment in an HDR+ photo with a single press of the shutter,” Google says, making it seemingly easier to capture a photo of your smiling face when it’s in focus.

The Pixel Watch will also get some updates, including car crash detection on the second-generation model. If the wearable detects that you may have been in a serious car accident, it will ask if you’re OK. If you don’t respond or need help, they can contact emergency services. This feature will also notify your contacts and share your location with them in real time. Other updates include improvements to fall detection and access to PayPal via Google Wallet on both generations of Pixel Watches.

Google says that access to the Google Home app will also be easier on devices running Wear OS 3 and later. For example, you’ll be able to access and control your smart home device using the watch face, and access your favorite devices with a swipe. The Google Home Favorites widget will also be available on phones and tablets running Android 12 or later.

Finally, when your Pixel tablet is docked in hub mode, it can receive richer notifications from your Nest doorbell. You’ll be able to see who’s at the door, talk to them in two-way chat mode, or send a quick reply.
