Overview of the state of advanced intelligent cloud devices

The Internet of Things is developing and maturing in many ways, from the devices and systems that run it and the wireless protocols used to connect them, to the software that enables everything to work together. Devices are becoming smarter and better connected, while increasing their power and functionality to support more applications and use cases.

Among the latest developments in cloud and IoT developments is Matter, a new “lingua franca” device-to-device communication protocol that promises to enable smart home applications to take advantage of the latest AI-based edge computing solutions. The multimodal nature of today’s cloud, in addition to migrating intelligence to the edge, requires intelligent, connected and aware devices.

In today’s podcast, we talk with Ross Sabolcik, senior vice president and general manager of industrial and commercial IoT products at Silicon Labs, about his views on the cloud, edge computing and the Internet of Things. Silicon Labs recently released the xG22E family of wireless SoCs, the company’s first family of devices designed to operate in the demanding low-power environments required for battery-free energy applications.
