Report: Network equipment most vulnerable to cyber attacks

Network infrastructure devices have overtaken endpoints this year as the riskiest category of Internet-connected devices, mainly due to an accelerated increase in the number of vulnerabilities and successful exploits against such devices since the last half of 2023, according to SiliconAngle.

According to the Forescout report, the most vulnerable devices include wireless access points, routers, printers and Voice over Internet Protocol systems, as well as IP cameras, with the majority of these types of devices found in the technology, education and manufacturing sectors. Vedere Research Laboratories. However, the lower level of Remote Desktop Protocol and the use of an outdated version of Windows have resulted in a significant reduction in cyber risk in the healthcare industry.

Meanwhile, the growing attack surface has led researchers to recommend adopting more advanced security measures that would better monitor risk across devices.

“Modern risk and exposure management must include devices in every category to identify, prioritize and mitigate risks across the organization,” the report said.
