Nitin Kamath shares Zerodha’s long-standing philosophy among people chasing inclusion: “Don’t do to others what…”

Brokerage firm Zerodha CEO Nitin Kamath on Friday shared the company’s philosophy of not pushing its users into trading. “While this is bad for business, it is good for customers in the long run,” the executive said in a social media post on Platform X.

“Not encouraging users to trade is bad for business, but it’s good for customers in the long run,” Kamath said in his post.

Kamath noted that people chasing engagement have made many things on the Internet annoying and unusable. The Zerodha chief also noted that he keeps his phone on silent due to intrusive calls, notifications and emails.

“With everyone chasing ‘engagement,’ we seem to have made a lot of things on the internet annoying and unusable,” he said in his post.

Emphasizing the company’s core philosophy, Kamath said, “Don’t do to others what you don’t want done to you. We don’t send emails or notifications unless it’s important. Oddly enough, that’s why people trust us?” he asked.

Kamath’s response was to a post by thewysetrader that said: “The only broker who never pushes you into trading in any form is @zerodhaonline. No notifications, no letters, nothing. It’s amazing how they’ve grown so much.”

Netizens react

Kamath’s post on X has attracted attention on social media, with some calling it a “no spam policy” and others calling it “calm and purposeful”.

“Well done Nitin bhai. This should be called a zero spam policy. However, engagement has a different meaning in the world of content creation,” Rahman said while responding to Kamath’s post on Platform X.

Others, such as Amit Misra, highlighted that apps seem to “scream for our attention” but when a business remains calm and focused, it builds trust.

Krishna Chaitanya Mamidi, another X user, called this act of attracting customers “micromanaging customers.”
