2 Newark police officers who chased 3 teenagers were hospitalized

After two police officers chased three juveniles in a vehicle and on foot Wednesday night, the teens were taken to the hospital after they evaded a traffic stop, authorities said.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle at Hunterdon Avenue and 14th Street around 7:45 p.m. The driver ignored the officers and continued driving, according to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé.

Officers located the vehicle at Osborone Terrace and Yates Boulevard and a short pursuit ensued, Fragé said.

“Three teenagers were rescued from the suspect vehicle and each was arrested,” Fragé said.

Two of the officers were taken to University Hospital after complaining of pain, Frage said. He detailed the officers’ specific medical complaints.

The teens were each charged with receiving stolen property, obstructing law enforcement and resisting arrest, according to police.
