Google Tensor G5 and G6 chips predicted to lag behind Apple and Qualcomm

The ship is leaking Google.

The new 3nm chips made by TSMC should be faster and more efficient than the 4nm chips made by Samsung in the Pixel 9 series. This is finally helping Google’s chip catch up a bit Apple A18 processor and Snapdragon 8 Elite.

Today, Checking the laptop reported that they received internal performance forecasts from a source that supposedly show what kind of performance Google expects from the Pixel 10 and Pixel 11 compared to Apple’s A-series. QualcommSnapdragon and MediaTek’s Dimensity SoC in the future.

The comparison will begin in 2021 and continue until 2026. According to Google’s extrapolation, despite the improvement, their chips typically lag behind their competitors’ flagship chips. Based on Geekbench scores, Google believes the Tensor chip won’t be able to perform at the same level as Apple’s current A18 or next year’s A19.

To be fair, these predictions are likely based on prototype chips that are not yet ready for mass use.

However, the predicted results make sense. Tensor G5 is expected to run on the same Arm Cortex-X4 that powers Tensor G4.

Apparently, the Tensor G6, which will be introduced in the Pixel 11, will get rid of the efficiency cores in favor of a new combination of the ARM Cortex-X930 supercore with six high-performance Cortex-A730 cores, which should provide a significant performance boost.

Fans of Google’s Pixel series feel like the next two iterations could be significantly more impressive and should be more competitive with Samsung and Apple’s mainstream phones, even if they aren’t as powerful.
