Two wounded in two separate shootings within an hour near Legion Field.

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama ((VBRK) – Two people were shot at two different locations in Birmingham on Friday afternoon, within an hour of each other, Birmingham police said.

Around 2:19 p.m., Birmingham police said they responded to a call of a person shot in the 200 block of 8th Avenue West.

When police arrived on scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Birmingham Police say a preliminary investigation revealed the victim and suspect got into a physical altercation, at which point the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

With a large police presence already in the area, Birmingham police were able to quickly respond to the scene and take the suspect into custody without incident.

Birmingham police say the incident did not occur at Legion Field.

About an hour later, at 3:18 p.m., Birmingham police were called to the 800 block of W 7th Street for a report of a person shot inside a home.

The man shot in the second incident was reported to have non-life-threatening injuries.

Birmingham police say no suspects are in custody in the second shooting.

BPD Sergeant LaQuitta Wade tells WBRC the two shooting incidents are not related.

Sergeant Wade also confirmed that these incidents are not related to Magic City Classic Events.
