‘He was on edge’: Dwight McNeil injured after key Everton player limped

Sean Dyche was asked about Dwight McNeill’s fitness after he was injured in Everton’s draw with Fulham.

Everton are worried about Dwight McNeill’s fitness after he limped off during the 1-1 draw with Fulham. The 24-year-old was treated in the visitors’ penalty area before limping and shaking his head when Sean Dyche asked him if he was ready to continue playing.

The matter had not yet been decided for several hours after the final whistle, but Dyche said he hoped it wasn’t serious.


Asked if he had any news on the injury after the match, the Blues manager replied: “Not yet, not yet. He obviously had to come off… he was on edge, so hopefully it’s not too serious.”

McNeil played a significant role in Evertonto date, creating some of the campaign’s standout moments.


Three goals, including stunning goals against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, mean he tops the club’s rankings. Premier League performance tables, and also made several assists, including a pass from which Michael Keane scored against Ipswich Town last week.

McNeil is a player renowned for his fitness and toughness, some of which made him an integral part of Dyche’s planning.

If he is sidelined at any point, it will add to the problems in the Blues’ midfield and attack.


Central midfielders James Garner And Tim Irogbunam Each face has been out for long periods with back and leg problems respectively, while forwards Armando Broja (Achilles) and Youssef Chermiti (toes) also struggle to overcome long-term injuries.

Late introduction Jarrad Branthwaite The match against Fulham at least confirmed that the central defender is back to fitness after a problem with his quadruples.

WITH Nathan Patterson And Seamus Coleman Beside him on the bench, Dyche had full protection to choose from ahead of the match for the first time this season.
