“Walk Out of Darkness” took place in Jackson

JACKSON, Tennessee. — Community members from across West Tennessee are uniting to make strides in suicide prevention.

The West Tennessee Out of the Darkness March took place today at Jackson State Community College.

The march began at 11 a.m. today and invites friends, family members and others to walk side by side in support of those lost to suicide.

And for those who are unable to attend the event, there is also the opportunity to become a volunteer.

The Out of the Darkness Walk began back in 2004 and each year offers a unique way for those affected by suicide to come together and share their stories.

The walks are held in communities across the country and support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s education and support programs.

The foundation’s goal this year is to reduce the annual suicide rate in the United States by 20 percent by 2025.

This year, the West TN Walk raised more than $3,000 toward the foundation’s overall goal.
