Windy, sunny and warm, near record heat earlier this week

LINCOLN, Neb. (Cologne) – I hope you’ve enjoyed the last couple days of fall as well as the temperatures, because while we’ll see an extended spell this coming week, the next three days will be both warm and hot.

On Sunday, we’re expecting temperatures in the upper 70s across the state, with some places to dip into the 80s in the West.

A combination of southerly winds and changing upper-level weather patterns will help lead to a warmer weekend. It was windy Saturday across much of the state, but not southeast Nebraska. That changes Sunday with wind gusts reaching 20 to 30 mph.

Temperatures in the lower 80s return to the Southeast by Monday, with temperatures rising across the state as well. Only 24 days in Lincoln’s history have had temperatures of 80 degrees or higher on or after October 28, and we could see one on Monday and another on Tuesday.

The hottest day this week will be Tuesday, with temperatures possibly in the upper 80s before dropping on Wednesday, but that will be about average for this time of year. Rain becomes more likely late Tuesday night and early Wednesday.

Warm to cool weather was also observed with a slight chance of rain.
